What is Coaching?

To understand what I do, it’s helpful to understand more about coaching.

With origins in business, education and psychology, coaching has been around for about 20 years.

When I first looked into coach training there were basically 3 choices.  Now there are over 150 accredited training programs world-wide, including graduate programs in leading universities like Georgetown and Robert H Smith School of Business at University of Maryland.

To say that coaching has exploded in popularity would be an understatement.

Why?

Research is proving that coaching works.  Programs differ, but all programs accredited through the International Coaching Federation (ICF) embrace a model based not in telling, but asking through powerful questioning and active listening; an action/learning model.

The client is considered an equal partner in developing goals and action plans. When clients are empowered they not only get the results they want, but the resourcefulness to get the results again and again.
